Christmas the dog tells his true Christmas story. (December 18, 2012) |
This is the ninth true story of a dog that has been blessed by a number of human angels at a time when he thought he had reached the end. I’ll let him tell his own story.
Merry Christmas, my latest name is “Christmas,” which is OK with me because I have been given the gift of life a second time. However it took a bunch of angels to perform this feat.
I don’t remember much about my puppy days, my memories recall a fenced-in yard with nothing to do, not even anything to eat or drink. My first angel I never saw, but that angel called the animal shelter and requested a welfare check on me.
Suddenly, two human archangels appeared, came into my yard and talked to me. They looked at my empty food and water bowls (both had cobwebs in them) and stood there talking among themselves. They were not going to just feed me; they were going to get me out of there.
I was a little scared when they lifted me up into their truck, but soon I was released and entered a veterinary clinic to meet my fourth angel, a guardian angel — the doctor. He weighed me (44 pounds) and examined me. He said that one more week and I would have died of starvation and dehydration.
Angels 2 and 3 took me to the animal shelter where I had plenty to eat and all the water I desired. I had lots of company, too, which made my days pass quickly. I call the volunteers who entertained me my cherubs because they flew in, played with me and left. With all that attention, I gained 16 pounds the first week, according to the doctor’s scale.
I stayed at the shelter two months with all the attention I could wish for. Then, another Archangel appeared — No. 5 — and took me to meet some new guardian angels who worked with me, training and socializing me for the next six weeks. There were 10 trainers in total, and I was allowed to socialize with lots of men each day. The program is called Mutts with Manners and the trainers are inmates at the local prison. I really enjoyed all the activity and attention. Thank you all you wonderful angels!
After six weeks, I was taken to a place where I was to “meet and greet” a family that was interested in adopting me. It was love at first sight and I left with them to join their household: mother, father, and two young sons as playmates. I’m a big boy now, weighing close to 90 pounds. I heard the father say that I am the most unique dog in his life, that I am wonderful with the children and I show my intelligence by checking the security monitors and going to the correct door or window to check on the boys as they play outside. I just know that I have three beds to choose from.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas. Love, Christmas.
