O'Brien exhibit set for Lexington gallery
LEXINGTON — M.S. Rezny Studio/Gallery, located in Lexington’s Distillery District, will host Harrodsburg resident Kathleen O’Brien’s “Realms of Wonder” collages in April.
The collages of abstract watercolors, drawings and botanicals echo the healing realms she experiences in meditation.
“Remaining in this meditative state, the energy of the present moment guides me,” O’Brien explains. “The brush glides, making true marks playful and abstract, scribing a universal language or elements of sacred geometry. Serene and vibrant color fills the space. Each stroke leads to the next, revealing stories of time and place for you to inhabit in peace.”
The tranquil beauty of nature is an enduring source of inspiration for O’Brien. Reflected in her collages are natures’ qualities of beauty, transparency, layering, mutability, communication and life force.
“I express the complexity and fragility of the world. I revere the simplicity and strength of life and nature. … I paint about energy, consciousness, light, and shadow,” O’Brien says. “The cycles of nature, cosmos, and humankind and how they interrelate for mutual benefit inform my work.
“I explore the interplay of perspective and flatness, time/space, order and chaos. Being in the moment, the creative flow connects me with my right place where I seek to touch the soul at the deepest level.”
The exhibit will open April 1 and be on view through April 30. An artist’s reception will be held 5-8 p.m. April 19, in conjunction with LexArts Gallery Hop. O’Brien will be in the gallery noon-3 p.m. every Saturday in April for an informal discussion of her artwork.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon-3 p.m. Saturday and by appointment.
