HARRODSBURG — The Harrodsburg/Mercer County Tourist Commission is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Pioneer Classic Cruise-In & Car Show Sept. 15 at Anderson-Dean Community Park on U.S. 127 North.
The cruise-in and show will take place rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Owners of all classic makes and models are welcome to show off their pride and joy; there is no registration fee for the optional judging competition. The first 100 exhibitors will receive a dash plaque.
Karen P. Hackett, executive director of the Harrodsburg/Mercer County Tourist Commission said,
“Following last year’s inaugural event, several local participants expressed an interest to assist with future shows, so invitations were extended to them to join the car show committee.”
Members planning the event include Arthur Elliott, Terry Young, David Sexton, John Trisler, David Brown, Steve Trimble and Chuck Dedman.
“Based on feedback from exhibitors who attended the 2011 event, the group decided to change the format to a one-day cruise-in and car show. This set-up allows greater involvement from car owners who just want to cruise in and not participate in a judged competition,” said Hackett.
Vehicles will be displayed in the parking lot in front of the Aquatic Facility near the front entrance of the park. Drive-thru judging will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with “Top 10 Best of Show” awards presented at 4 p.m.
There will be $100 prize money drawn every half-hour from 12 noon until 7 p.m. for car show exhibitors only.
The out-of-town judging staff consists of a group of highly skilled car enthusiasts who have extensive knowledge and experience in the automotive and restoration field.
Returning again this year by popular demand are The Dooley-Miller Band with Kickin’ Brass, a talented regional band performing a variety of classic pop tunes from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
High Heels & Sneakers, a high-energy vocal group featuring Cole Curtsinger, Katie Hardin and Christina Walton, presented by Goldsmith-Vigneri Productions/Studio G, also will perform at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Admission is free. For more information, contact the Harrodsburg/Mercer County Tourist Commission at (800) 355-9192 or (859) 734-2364 or www.harrodsburgky.com.
