Last week, we adopted a small dog and entered the great world of pet ownership. He already has captured our hearts, but we definitely don’t want him to capture our wallets.
So, in my typical fashion, I’ve been searching the Internet and the local stores to find ways to save money on pet supplies, food and accessories.
Get coupons
When you get a pet, you really don’t know which brand of food your new animal is going to like. So what do you do when you need several different brands? You just ask for coupons.
** Frontline: Buy 6 doses, get 1 free — www.frontline.us.merial.com/.
** Purina: Go to Purina.com to print several different coupons for Purina products — http://www.purina.com/coupons-and-offers/couponsandoffers.aspx.
** Nature’s Recipe: Go to Natures Recipe website and print a $3 coupon for any of its pet food products — http://www.naturesrecipe.com/.
Can’t find coupons for your pet’s favorite product? Then just ask!
The first night after we adopted our dog, I Googled every dog food brand I could think of and went to their customer service tabs. I sent off an email to each of the companies and asked them if they would send me coupons.
I have gotten several email responses from the companies telling me that they are sending me coupons and samples.
Find a coupon friend: If you know a local coupon user who does not own a pet, ask them to keep the pet supply coupons and share them with you. Most coupon users would much rather share a coupon than toss it in the trash.
