Church Briefs for August 3, 2012

Music

The Patriot Quartet will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mackville Community Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available, including homemade desserts. Come and enjoy an evening of gospel music and good food.

 

Revivals

Vision Church of Holiness — 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, the church will have a three-night revival. The speakers for Thursday night will be Latoya Payne of Danville, and  April Starks of New Albany, Ind. The speakers for Friday will be Shelia Walker of Danville and Sedrick McCurdy along with True Worship of Dallas, Texas. The speakers for Saturday will be Angela Weathers of Danville and McCurdy. The church is at 704 Holladay Drive.

 

Pastor appreciation

Vision Church of Holiness — 4 p.m. Aug. 11, the church will have a pastor’s appreciation banquet at the Inter-County Energy building, 1009 Hustonville Road, Danville. Christ The Head Missionary Church — 11 a.m. Sunday, pastor Charles Daugherty and congregation of Rejoice Temple of Praise will be special guests.

 

Back to school events

Moreland First Baptist Church — 6-8 p.m. Sunday, the church will give away free school supplies  at its “Back to School Bash.” The church is at 501 Community Center Drive.

 

Church anniversary

First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut streets —  3 p.m. Sunday, the church will celebrate its 166th anniversary. The Rev. John Lee and congregation of Greater Liberty Baptist Church will be guests. The church will host a picnic Aug. 12 at Millennium Park following morning worship services. 

 

Good things to eat

Gethsemane Baptist Church — 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Cowan Park, the church will host an ice cream social. Activities include face painting, kickball and other games. The event is free, and the  community is welcome.

Fairview Christian Church, Paint Lick — 5-7 p.m. Saturday, the church will host a pork barbecue supper. The menu includes pork barbecue sandwich, fries, potato salad, slaw, baked beans, dessert and drink. The meal is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
