Smokey

Smokey (April 9, 2012)

Our featured pets for this week are Smokey and Henry. Smokey is a handsome 3-year-old gray and white cat. He is very social and loves attention and also has a playful side to his personality. Smokey had a home, but his owner was no longer able to keep him. All Smokey asks for is another chance at his forever home with a loving family.

Henry is a cheerful hound mix. He’s not quite 1 year old yet, but at 50 pounds, he already is a big boy. Henry is sweet and gentle with a laid-back demeanor. Henry would love to have a big backyard where he can play and exercise, along with a family that will give him lots of love and attention.

If you are considering adding a pet to your family, please come to our adoption center on the Danville bypass next to the fairgrounds, and visit the beautiful animals waiting for new homes. You also can preview many of our available pets at our website www.homes4pets.org.

“Kitten season” will soon be upon us. Cats produce kittens during the warm months of the year. Did you know that the humane society takes in about 150 cats and kittens each month during the late spring and summer? Many of these are kittens born to stray or feral cats. If you choose to feed stray or feral cats, please be responsible and have them spayed or neutered. Cats that have been altered live longer and have healthier lives.

The humane society’s wish list includes used blankets and towels, hand soap and hand sanitizer, paper towels, bleach and laundry detergent. Donations are very much appreciated and help us care for the animals while they wait for their forever homes.

Low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter surgery is available for pet owners with low and fixed incomes. Call our Happy Paws Clinic at (859) 691-1137 for an appointment.  Please help control pet over-population by having your pet spayed or neutered.
