Boyle County Fiscal Court awarded grants

Grants totaling more than $73,000 have been awarded to Boyle County Fiscal Court to help take out the trash.

Boyle County Solid Waste and Recycle Director Donna Fechter asked for and received grants totaling $52,947.82 from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management for recycling equipment, containers and education.

The money will be used to purchase a new forklift for the Recycle Center and containers for Constitution Square, with the balance earmarked for education and advertising.

Also received from the same agency was a Household Hazardous Waste Grant of $20,500 for a “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.”

Fechter said this event that collects all the cast-off “-cides” such as insecticides along with toxic substances such as corrosives usually is held in the fall but because of the vice presidential debate at Centre College and the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Perryville, the date has been pushed back.

“This event will be scheduled for March or April of 2013,” Fechter said.
