LEXINGTON - Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass announced today at a press conference it will close without a significant infusion of money.
According to a press release, programs in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties would be affected.
Alan Stein, who recently retired from his position as an executive with the Lexington Legends, is president of Stein Group and also a former Big Brother.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass is in dire financial trouble,”Stein said in the press release. “I recently learned that, if something isn’t done very soon, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass will have no choice but to close its doors. Even the board’s legal counsel had recommended it.”
Stein said he and a small group of others had pledged to keep the organization afloat for two weeks, but made a plea for donations that will be necessary to avoid shuttering the charity.
There is a fund at Central Bank and donations can be made by calling 1-800-201-8797, at the website www.bbbs-bluegrass.org, or at Central Bank location.
