New York City police have charged the estranged boyfriend of Danville native Danielle Thomas with her murder.
Jason Bohn, 33, of New York City, was arrested Friday at a restaurant in White Plains, N.Y., and charged with murder, aggravated criminal contempt, criminal contempt and evidence tampering in connection with Thomas' death, said a spokeswoman with the New York Police Department. A date for his arraignment had not been set as of Saturday.
Thomas’ grandmother, Juanita Hardgrove of Danville, declined to comment Saturday.
Thomas, 27, was strangled and beaten to death in her apartment Tuesday, according to Grace Brugess, a spokeswoman for the New York City Medical Examiner’s office.
Thomas had a restraining order against Bohn. Police said Bohn, who is an attorney, called authorities the night of Thomas’ death and said, “‘I threw her against the wall. Somebody should go and check if she’s all right.” Investigating officers found Thomas’s body in a bathtub full of ice, according to published reports.
According to police, Bohn called Thomas and threatened her on June 7 while she was at a New York City police precinct filing a report against him for a beating she endured on May 24. Bohn allegedly beat her face and back. He was charged with harassment as well as assault and has a court hearing regarding those cases in less than two weeks.
“It’s war!” Bohn said in a voicemail to Thomas, according to court documents. “I’ll dedicate my life to hunting you down like a dog in the streets.”
Thomas and Bohn met in Florida, where she was working for Disney. The couple moved together to New York City several months ago.
Thomas was a graduate of Boyle County High School and the daughter of Jamie Thomas Bright of Danville and the late Calvin Thomas. Funeral arrangements are pending.
