Danville city and county offices will close early Thursday

The Boyle County Courthouse as well as Danville City Hall will close early Thursday due to the vice-presidential debate at Centre College.

Danville City Hall is scheduled to close at 3 p.m. Thursday, said City Clerk Donna Peek. During its Tuesday meeting, Boyle County magistrates unanimously upheld County Judge-Executive Harold McKinney’s recommendation to close the courthouse at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Traffic jams are already starting in Danville and are expected to worsen Thursday afternoon and evening, so officials are urging residents and visitors to take their time getting to destinations especially near Centre College.

During Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting, Danville Convention and Visitors Director Jennifer Kirchner as well as Heart of Danville Interim Director Brenda Willoughby reported that debate preparations are running smoothly.

“We feel really prepared for this debate,” Kirchner said.

Willoughby reported that the finishing touches to decorate Constitution Square were scheduled to be completed by sometime Tuesday.
