A Danville man accused of shooting his son-in-law in London has bonded out of custody and faces a preliminary hearing next week, officials said.
William Mills, 57, of 1205 Hustonville Road, posted a $50,000 bond Tuesday and is on home incarceration until further notice, said a spokeswoman with the Laurel County Detention Center. His preliminary hearing on charges of attempted murder and first-degree burglary is scheduled for Tuesday in Laurel District Court.
The charges stem from an alleged altercation Sunday night between Mills and his son-in-law, William McDougall, 31, said state Trooper Don¿Trosper.
“Mr. McDougall and Mr. Mills’ daughter are going through a divorce, and it turned into an ugly domestic situation,” Trosper said.
Mills, manager of the ACE Hardware franchise on Hustonville Road, allegedly shot McDougall, Trosper said. As of Wednesday, McDougall was listed in fair condition in the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
Mills is being represented by public defender Kelly Ridings, who did not return a call seeking comment.
If Mills is convicted of attempted murder, he could be incarcerated for 20 to 50 years. A first-degree burglary conviction, which is a felony, could lead to an additional 10 to 20 years incarceration.
