Festival to be part of vice presidential debate at Centre College in Danville, KY

Centre College and AARP are sponsoring a debate festival beginning at noon Thursday on the festival lawn on campus. The festival lawn will open at 11 a.m.

The event is an additional celebration of the spirit of democracy on the Centre College campus.

The general public can watch the vice-presidential debate as it happens via a live televised broadcast on the lawn. Additional programs and performances will be going on throughout the day.

The entrance to the grounds is near the corner of West Main Street and Maple Avenue on campus. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in and around downtown Danville on the street or in public parking lots.

Handicap-accessible parking with shuttle service to and from the festival will be provided behind the Horky House — accessible on Maple Avenue off Perryville Street by Toliver Elementary School. The reserved lot is first come, first served and available for vehicles with visible handicap plate or hangtag only.

Here is a look at what is going on during the debate festival; performance times are approximate and subject to change:

Noon: Earthman Lanny Smith, “Please Don’t Litter Concert,” sponsored by Boyle County Department of Solid Waste.

1 p.m.: “AARP: You’ve Earned a Say,” community conversation.

2 p.m.: Kentucky Ensemble: Jeri Howell.

2:35 p.m.: Kentucky Ensemble: MP.

3:30 p.m.: Nathan Link’s Superfriends.

4:30 p.m.: Danville Children’s Choir, Center Men’s Voices, Center Singers, Danville Summer Singers.

6 p.m.: Aly’an.

7 p.m.: Ben Sollee.

8:10 p.m.: official debate festival welcome.

8:30 p.m.: pre-debate broadcast by C-SPAN.

9 p.m.: vice-presidential debate broadcast by CNN.

10:30 p.m.: The Marshall Tucker Band.

Festival lawn rules and regulations

Centre College and the festival lawn are private property. All visitors who wish to remain on campus during the festival must abide by the following rules:

No disorderly conduct.
No weapons allowed, concealed or otherwise.
All persons and personal property are subject to search.
Be respectful and courteous at all times.
Chairs in bags must be removed from bags.
No alcoholic beverages or illegal substances.
No smoking allowed on the festival lawn.
No glass of any kind.
No coolers allowed.
Group expressive activity is to only take place in Speakers Park, off Russell Street.
No PA systems or noisemakers.
No stakes, posts or poles.
No signs other than candidate campaign signs, 24 by 36 inches or smaller.
No tents or large umbrellas.
No grilling or cooking equipment.
No pets other than service dogs.
No personal items should be left unattended.
