After a slow lead up to Tuesday’s general election filing deadline, there was a flurry of late activity in Boyle County before the 4 p.m. cutoff.
At the beginning of the day, no candidates had filed to run for the six Perryville City Council seats, but a total of 13 people turned in their paperwork by the deadline.
Incumbents Jennifer Bodner, Megan Shelby and Matthew Bottom did not file for re-election, but fellow council members Harold Jones, Brian Caldwell and Billy Matherly all will run in the fall.
Junction City also saw a large number of filings Monday and Tuesday, and all six of the current council members will be on the ballot.
Notable among the new candidates is former Junction City Police and Fire Chief Jimmy Gipson, who was fired in 2010 by current Mayor Jim Douglas and later filed a lawsuit.
Candidates who filed for seats in Boyle County include:
Danville City Commission (four seats)
Paige Stevens, 120 Raleigh Ct.; Paul Smiley, 150 St. Mildred’s Court; James (J.H.) Atkins, 1200 Glenellen Court; Norma Gail Louis, 25 Colonial Way; Kevin Caudill, 328 Hudson Ave.; Ryan A. Montgomery, 131 Colonial Way; Janet Hamner, 212 Maple Ave.
Boyle Circuit Clerk
Democrat, Joni Hogue Terry, 416 Streamland Drive.
Boyle County Board of Education
District 5: Alane Mills, 800 Popplewell Lane.
District 1: Stephen T. Tamme, 417 Tuggle Road.
District 4: Bruce O. Jones, 507 Stoneybrook Drive; and Jennifer Gilbert Newby, 409 Valleybrook Drive.
Danville Independent Board of Education (two seats)
