STANFORD — A former deputy at the Lincoln County Regional Jail has been indicted on a charge of third-degree rape of a female inmate.
Former deputy Scott Roberts of Waynesburg is accused of having sexual intercourse with the inmate in October and November while he was employed at the jail, according to a press release from Jailer David Gooch. Roberts abruptly resigned in late November.
Gooch said a Lincoln County grand jury issued the indictment Friday as a result of an ongoing investigation by Capt. Justin Parsons of the jail’s internal affairs unit.
“Earlier this year, I directed Capt. Justin Parsons, who is over the jail’s internal affairs unit, to initiate an investigation into several alleged incidents of staff misconduct,” Gooch said. “The investigation began in March 2012 and as a result of the ongoing investigation, this is the third former staff member to be criminally charged.”
In March, former deputy Justin Pearson was charged with first-degree promoting contraband; and earlier this month, former deputy Gabriel Owens was charged with second-degree promoting contraband.
“While the current investigation into staff misconduct is nearing its conclusion, further arrests and/or charges could be forthcoming,” Gooch said.
