LANCASTER — Garrard County Fiscal Court passed a resolution Monday to apply for more funding from the Community Development Block Grant program. The money would go to pay for renovations to the Lan-
caster Higher Education Center, the Lancaster campus of Eastern Kentucky University, and Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
There was a 16 percent increase in enrollments from the 2009-2010 school year to the 2010-2011 school year. This is an enrollment percentage for both Eastern Kentucky University and Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Some of the students reflected in the percentage may be duplicates.
The campus is located at 67 Public Square, and currently an architect is determining the amount that will be needed to make the improvements. The grant application is due in early September.
“We are walking through the steps while we wait on (the architect’s) information,” Judge-Executive John Wil- son said.
In other business, an updated “memorandum,” according to the judge-executive, was signed regarding the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, which helped fund environmentally-friendly improvements to county buildings, such as the animal shelter, courthouse and the Gov. William Owsley House.
“We’re going green in Garrard County,” Wilson said.
Improvements, which already have been done, include updated insulation and programmable thermostats. A previous memorandum had been passed when the county received $11,000; however, a new one had to be enacted when the amount rose to $40,000.
