LANCASTER — A Garrard County High School senior who died Monday in a car crash is being remembered for her upbeat personality.
Sarah Wilson’s family pastor was teary-eyed Tuesday afternoon as he spoke for the grieving family at a press conference assembled by Coroner Daryl Hodge at the Garrard County Courthouse.
“She was one of those people that was always laughing,” the Rev. Kaywood Morris told reporters, adding that the 18-year-old loved to joke and was never down about life.
“She was always one of those upbeat people,” he said.
Wilson was a passenger in a car that crashed Monday afternoon on Sutton Lane north of Lancaster. The car overturned, ejecting her and landing on top of her. She was not wearing a seat belt.
“It’s tragic,” Morris said. “She was a wonderful young lady.”
Morris said dealing with something so heartbreaking in a small town is almost hard to believe.
“It’s not just something you just read about or hear about on the news,” he said. “It involved a young lady that we love very much. We appreciate all your prayers.”
Morris said there has been “an outpouring of love” from the community in remembrance of Wilson.
People have expressed sympathy on Facebook, contacted the family through text messages, phone calls and visits, and given food, he said.
“She would have done the same thing for all of us,” Morris acknowledged. “I was just blessed to be her pastor and her friend.”
Morris said Wilson was active in the youth group at Buena Vista Baptist Church and enjoyed hanging out with friends. He said she was never down about life and loved to joke with anyone around her.
“We’re gonna miss her,” Morris said. “She was a precious young lady.”
