FRANKFORT — The Heart of Danville Main Street Program took top honors at the 2012 Kentucky Main Street Awards hosted by the Kentucky Heritage Council.

The event, which was held  Wednesday evening at the Grand Theater in Frankfort, brought revitalization professionals from across Kentucky to celebrate a year of successful initiatives

As part of the awards recognition, Heart of Danville and Henderson’s Main Street organization were honored as the two oldest programs in the state, both celebrating 25 years of downtown revitalization.

Heart of Danville’s weekly “E-News” newsletter was highlighted as one of the three best examples of downtown marketing and Best Organization Award was given to Heart of Danville’s board of directors, recognizing it’s strategic planning process in 2011.

State Main Street Coordinator Becky Gorman said, “The planning process is unprecedented, giving the public and many naysayers an opportunity to get involved in Main Street, have their voice heard and watch the program embark on a process to take Danville to the next phase in downtown development. Heart of Danville is now poised to move forward with a new sense of energy and purpose.”

Heart also won the Award for Excellence in the Main Street Four-Point Approach as judged by peer Main Street organizations across the state.

“Danville is a rock star in the Kentucky Main Street Program. The Heart of Danville continually seeks new ways to do better, be better and do right by their community,” said Lindy Casebier of the Heritage Council

Casebier gave credit to Executive Director Julie Wagner, saying, “The main street director is a leader and mentor for other communities and routinely teaches Main Street 101 to new program managers.”

Heart of Danville will celebrate these successes at the organization’s 25th Anniversary celebration  on Feb. 29. Details about the event will be listed online at www.downtowndanville.com.
