Mother, child injured in crash on Ky. 34

A mother and her infant child are fighting for their lives in a Lexington hospital after they were ejected from a vehicle Thursday night on Ky. 34.

According to the Boyle County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle went through a guard rail and over an embankment on Ky. 34 at Taylor Road, throwing the female driver and small child from the car. The mother and child, whose names had not been released at press time, were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation showed that neither a seatbelt nor a child restraint were in use at the time of the crash. Speed was a factor in the crash, according to witnesses and evidence at the scene.
