FORKLAND - State Police are investigating an alleged attack on a Boyle County man over the weekend as an attempted murder.
State Police spokesman Trooper Paul Blanton said Billy Joe Hayes told authorities he was jumped by two men outside his truck at his home on Ky. 37 between Mitchellsburg Knob Road and Minors Branch Road shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday morning. According to Hayes, the men whose faces were obscured, restrained him before burning his pant leg with a blow torch.
Hayes was not injured and was left on the ground beside his vehicle, Blanton said. The attackers had left the scene by the time police arrived.
Blanton said Hayes had been receiving threats over the phone, but did not know who was making the threats.
The crime is being investigated by Trooper Donnie Moses and Det. Monte Owens. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call state police at (859) 623-2404 or toll free at (800) 222-5555.
