HARRODSBURG — A small fire Monday morning in the Mercer County Intermediate School prompted a response from Harrodsburg Fire Department.
According to Assistant Chief Rick Maxfield, a piece of cardboard or something similar had been accidentally placed on a stove, which was then turned on. Crews were called about 8:30 a.m., however, the small fire was extinguished before they arrived on scene.¿The building was still temporarily evacuated for safety reasons.
“We made sure they were safe, and got them back in quickly,”¿Maxfield said, adding that it was raining pretty heavily, so students were moved into the gym until they were able to clear the remaining smoke from the building.
