The wife and son of one of the men charged in the killing of Gleason Pyles were arrested Wednesday in connection with the case.
Ruth Salyers, 58, and Dereck Salyers, 25, both of Mannsville, were picked up by police after a Taylor County grand jury indicted them for tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in the investigation into the slaying of Pyles, who was shot to death Sept. 26 as he worked at Tarter Gate Co. in Casey County.
David Salyers, 58, is charged with complicity to murder Pyles; William Rigdon, 24, of Lebanon, is charged with murder for allegedly shooting Pyles three times; and Anthony Byrd, 53, of Dunnville, an employee of Tarter Gate who allegedly helped Rigdon and David Salyers locate Pyles while he was working, is charged with criminal facilitation.
Trooper Billy Gregory declined to discuss the specifics of the charges against Ruth Salyers and Dereck Salyers, saying the case remains under investigation and additional arrests are expected.
The two were indicted in Taylor County because that is where the alleged evidence tampering and hindering prosecution occurred, he said.
During testimony at a November preliminary hearing in the case, Kentucky State Police detectives testified they saw two handguns when they visited the Salyers home while pretending to investigate the burning of David Salyers’ truck.
When they returned later to execute a search warrant on the residence related to Pyles’ death, only one handgun was recovered, the detectives said.
Ruth Salyers posted bond and was released shortly after her arrest. Dereck Salyers is being held in the Taylor County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.
David Salyers and Rigdon remain in the Casey County Detention Center under $1-million bonds. Byrd was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond.
