Strong wind and lightning associated with severe storms that rolled through about dusk Wednesday left many area roads blocked and hundreds without power for part of the night.
County road departments and emergency management personnel reported trees and power lines down in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer Counties. No widespread property damage or serious injuries had been reported as of press time, but many roads were blocked for periods of time.
In Boyle County, Public Works Director Duane Campbell said crews were kept busy removing trees and limbs from roads in several different areas. South and North Buster Pike in the north, Taylor Road and Wells Landing Road in the northeast, and Locklin Lane off of Perryville Road to the west were all blocked for a period of time.
Boyle Emergency Management Director Lennie Shepperson said the Boyle County Fire Department was dispatched along with road crews to Ky. 52 at Hubble Road, where a tree had to be cleared. He said state highway workers also were dispatched early today to deal with limbs down on Gentry Lane.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Don Gilliam said the major issue reported overnight was trees down in the southwestern part of the county.
According to Inter-County Energy spokeswoman Sheree Gilliam, winds of up to 60 miles per hour and lightning were blamed for knocking out power to 470 customers in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Marion counties. As of 8 a.m. today power had been restored to all Inter-County customers.
Kentucky Utilities spokesman Cliff Feltham said there were about 300 people in Boyle, Garrard and Lincoln without power Wednesday, but most had electricity restored by this morning. As of 9:30 a.m., the map showing current outages on the Kentucky Utilities website indicated fewer than five customers in Danville remained without power.
