Police are investigating a collision that killed a pedestrian Sunday night on Main Street.
About 7:25 p.m., Barbara Russell, 56, of Danville, was driving her 2004 Chevrolet Venture eastbound on Main Street, police said.
Russell’s minivan struck Shirley Carter, 71, of Danville, a pedestrian, in the eastbound lanes of Main Street across from Community Trust Bank, according to police.
Boyle County and Danville paramedics treated Carter at the scene for life-threatening injuries. They transported her to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where she died at 8:15 p.m., said Boyle County Coroner Dr. Don Hamner.
“Mrs. Carter had just been at the Speedway and was walking across the street back to her apartment when the car hit her,” Hamner said.
Carter was not in the crosswalk at the time of the collision, according to police.
None of the detectives investigating the case were available for comment this morning.
