Danville High School forensics teams placed second at the Kentucky High School Speech League’s state speech contest, and third at the state debate contest, March 13-15 at the University of Kentucky.
Five DHS students came home as state champions in their respective events: Andrew McKinney in Congressional Debate, Sue Cook in Declamation, Jack Graham in Dramatic Interpretation, and the team of Sarabeth Marlowe and Kolton Winfield in Improvisational Duo.
DHS students earned 20 additional awards at the contests. McKinney’s win marks six straight years DHS has won the state title in Congressional Debate.
Rowan County won the state speech title followed by Danville, Boone County, LaRue County, Harrison County, and Knott County Central as the top six teams. In Debate, Ryle High School in Boone County won the state title followed by Rowan County and Danville in second and third places.
