Helen Louise Sickles Lewis, 84, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center in Springfield, Ky.
Born Jan. 30, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was a daughter of Elizabeth and Lee Sickles and the widow of George Robert Lewis. Helen attended Rosenwald High School in Lebanon and retired from¿Centre College in Danville in 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose Elizabeth Simpson of Montgomery, Ala., and Mary Helen (Howard) Burch of Waddy; two sons, George Lee Lewis of Danville and Allen Eugene (Mary Ann) Lewis of Lebanon; two sisters, Clementine (Joe) Smalley and Nancy Railey of Lebanon; three brothers, Charles (June) Sickles, George Sickles and James (Doris)¿Sickles of Louisville; six grandchildren, Kevin Simpson of Tuscon, Ark., Jeffrey B. Burch of Louisville, Samantha L. (Joel) Figueroa of Grayson, Ga., Naseera Lewis of Louisville, Forrest Lewis of Harrodsburg and Joseph Lewis of Lexington; six great-grandchildren, Michael, Selena, Maya, Joel Jr., Shamaya, LeeSean and Marleigh; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the SS Peter and Paul¿Catholic Church in Danville.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Smith-Jackson Funeral Home in Danville.
