Wellness center offering swimming, lifeguard classes
McDowell Wellness Center is offering swimming lessons and lifeguard training.
Swimming lessons begin April 10 and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks. Each lesson is 45 minutes. Classes are available for all age groups and taught by certified instructors. Call (859) 936-9355 for detailed list of class times and more information.
The last lifeguard training course of the season will begin April 12. The training will take place over seven days: 5-6:30 p.m. April 12; 5-9 p.m. April 13; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. April 14; 1-7 p.m. April 15; 5-9 p.m. April 20; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. April 21; and 8 a.m.-noon April 22.
Anyone interested in the training should register by April 11. Training books and face shields are included in class fees. Call McDowell Wellness Center at (859) 936-9355 to register or for more information.
Garrard humane society plans event
LANCASTER — Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society will have Advocacy Day 5-7 p.m. April 6 at the humane society building, 214 Richmond St. The event will include a presentation on the importance of spaying and neutering pets, a pet costume contest, bandana giveaway, free dog baths, refreshments and more. Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society is an all-volunteer animal welfare organization.
Tree giveaway
Boyle County Conservation District has tree seedlings to give away. The seedlings include Northern Red Oak, Persimmon, Yellow Poplar, White Pine, Hazelnut and Chestnut Oak. The district purchases the seedlings from the Division of Forestry. To receive trees, visit the office at 448 North Danville Bypass (in the back of the Farm Bureau Building) between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Meetings
Mercer County Board of Education — 5 p.m. today in the central office workroom, 371 E. Lexington St. in Harrodsburg for a special meeting to hold two expulsion hearings in executive session and to discuss future acquisition or sale of property in executive session.
Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning Commission — 9 a.m. April 4 at Danville City Hall. The technical review staff will meet 9 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Danville City Hall conference room. Items on the agenda for the planning and zoning meeting include: new business of consent agenda for Hankla and Hankla, Battlefield Road; John and Janet Aumiller, Perryville Road; Slough Creek Properties, North Third Street final plat; and Danville Convention and Conference Center, site plan. The chair person’s business agenda includes: preliminary plat renewal for The Woods at Balls Creek (expires April 2); City of Danville Private Entity Funding Agreement, status report; and election of officers.
Correction
Channing Baker, a sixth-grader at Boyle Middle School, achieved the All A’s honor roll. The information was incorrect in a recent publication, due to incorrect information submitted by the school to the Advocate-Messenger.
