LANCASTER — Garrard County students will begin and end classes two days earlier next year.
During its meeting Tuesday, the Board of Education approved the 2012-13 academic calendar. Students start classes Aug. 8, while school personnel report Aug. 6. The last day for pupils will be May 15, 2013, and the closing day for staff is May 16. The 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic calendars are very similar, according to Bobbie Jean Ball, director of pupil personnel.
School is not in session on Labor Day and Martin Luther King Day. Students and personnel have fall break from Oct. 8 to 12, Thanksgiving break from Nov. 21 to 23, winter holiday from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 and spring vacation from April 1 to 5. Pupils do not attend classes on staff development days, which are slated for Dec. 20 and 21, Jan. 2,¿Feb. 18, March 15 and 18.
