Alonzo Scott (July 28, 2012)

Alonzo Scott, 83, of Lancaster, formerly of Salyersville, died Thurs., July 26, 2012, at the VA Medical Hospice Center in Lexington.  

Born July 25, 1929, in Magoffin County, he was a son of the late Jefferson Nolan and Dora Bailey Scott. He served in the U.S. Armyduring the Korean Conflict and was a farmer. Mr. Scott was a member of the Masonic Order.  

Survivors include his wife, Marelyn Sue Scott; two sons, Mark (Michelle) Scott and Wade Scott, both of Lancaster; five daughters, Connie (Charley) Brookshire of Lakeworth, Fla., Terry (Doug Shelton) Scott of Lexington, Marcia (Kevil Chinn) Shackelton of Danville, Debbie (Doug) McGibbon of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and Angie (Jay) Latimer of Mount Sterling; a sister, Lovilla Johnson of Paintsville; 11 grandchildren, Morgan Pawley, Nicole Shackelton, Alicia Latimer, Katharyn Stump, Alex Penix, Jason Shackelton, Emily Latimer, Jacob Latimer, Matthew Brookshire, Kalyn McGibbon and Kyla McGibbon; and four great-grandchildren, Griffin James, Aubree Penix, Mason Penix and Hallie Thompson.

Four sisters and two brothers preceded Mr. Scott in death.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dyer Salyersville Funeral Home. Rev. William Paul Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Jackson Cemetery, Salyersville.

Active pallbearers will be Charley Brookshire, Jay Latimer, Doug Shelton, Kevil Chinn, Jacob Latimer, Gary Jackson and Matthew Brookshire. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. 

Memorial donations are suggested to the VA Hospice Center, 2250 Leestown Road, Lexington, Ky. 40511.
