STANFORD — The board of directors for the Stanford Main Street Program has been dissolved, former Main Street Director Andrea Miller confirmed Thursday.
Miller said an email from Mayor Bill Miracle announced the dissolution of the Main Street board and invited its members to join the board of the Stanford Arts and Music Program.
The city council zeroed out the Main Street Program budget for the new fiscal year, transferring much of its budget to the Arts and Music Program.
Miracle said the Main Street Program had "basically been reduced to $10,000 a year for basically picking out flowers for Main Street," and the money was better spent by putting it into the Arts and Music Program.
Miracle said rumors have been going around that Miller was fired from her position with the Main Street Program, but those rumors are false. Miller was OK with the move, he said.
"She and I had talked about this on three different occasions," he said. "She helped influence this decision."
Miracle told Stanford City Council members July 5 that Miller had done a great job in her role.
"She was doing fine with the Main Street Program," he said. "It's just there was nothing really going on there."
Neither Miller nor Miracle knew if any Main Street board members had accepted the invitation to join the Arts and Music Program board yet.
Miller, who is also executive director of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is taking over organization of the upcoming Run for Independence 5K on July 14, which had been a duty of the Main Street Program.
"I'm basically just refocusing my energy to try to make our chamber even better than it had been," Miller said.
Miller has scheduled a thank-you lunch for her former board members on July 12.
