Meetings

Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning Commission — 9 a.m. March 6 at Danville City Hall. The technical review staff will meet 9 a.m. Thursday in the city hall conference room.

Items on the commission’s agenda include: consent agenda for Marlin Taylor on Parksville Crosspike; final plat amendment, David Collier/Inter County Energy; final plat amendment for Bethel Baptist Church, Cowan Street; site plan revocatioon and site plans for Bethel Baptist Church; final plat amendment, Walmart; site plan, Cheddar’s; final plat amendment, Highland Court subdivision; and zone change hearing, Barry Metcalf of Centre Estates Drive.

Other business will include preliminary plat renewal for The Hunt Farm, which expires March 1.

Mercer County Board of Education — 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. today, special-called executive sessions to disucss the dismissal or discipline of an individual employee, student or member. Following the 5 p.m. session, an open meeting to approve the mowing bid and use of a non-board owned vehicle for a school trip.

Blood drive set for Saturday

The Kentucky Blood Center will have a blood drive on the KBC Bloodmobile 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the Danville Walmart parking lot. Everyone who donates blood will be entered to win two tickets to the NCAA¿Men’s Basketball Tournament March 21 and 23 in Rupp Area.

Lincoln County Library events

  • Story hour at the Lincoln County Public Library, 201 Lancaster St., is 10 a.m. every Thursday for toddlers and at 11 a.m. for preschoolers.
  • Registration for the Tween (ages 8-12) book club will be 6 p.m. March 7 at the library. Anyone unable to attend can call (606) 365-7513.
  • Experiment!: Science Lab is set for 4 p.m. March 20 at Lincoln County Public Library. Program is for children 8 and up to debunk myths and perform scientific experiments. Participants will learn by doing. For more information, call (606) 365-7513.
  • Federal Tax Forms for individuals are available at the library.

Hustonville Elementary to host competition

Hustonville Elementary School will host the District 8 Governor’s Cup academic competition on Saturday.

The event is sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition. The Governor’s Cup features eight events, including Quick Recall, which is the only event open to the public and begins at noon.

Participating schools are Hustonville Elementary, Hogsett Elementary, Junction City Elementary and Stanford Elementary.

District winners will advance to the Governor’s Cup Regional competition to be held March 23 at Lancaster Elementary.
