PAINT LICK — Paint Lick Community Arts Center will celebrate its grand opening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the former First Southern National Bank building.
The evening will begin with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce, then everyone will be invited to tour the first-floor facility, which includes a “gathering room” for meetings, workshops, recitals, lectures and other community events; a “tea room” for small group meetings, discussion groups and clubs; and finally a retail shop called “Halyvonne’s Secret Garden,” which will offer fine art objects and collectibles for sale.
Refreshments will be served, and live music will be performed by fiddler Beau Hughes and banjo player Austin Perkins. All area residents are invited.
Another main feature of the evening will be the opening reception for the first community art exhibit on the walls of the “gathering room.” Paintings by students of Hal Davis and artworks by other community artists will be on display. The artists will be in attendance to talk with the viewers.
Hal and Yvonne Davis have been living in a remodeled apartment on the second floor of the building and for the last number of weeks have been preparing the first-floor center and shop spaces.
Their mission in Paint Lick is to provide the space and opportunity for members of the community to experience the arts and thereby enrich their lives.
The Davises have planned many arts activities for October, November and December and are encouraging Paint Lick and area people to sign up now for the classes, workshops and events planned.
