LANCASTER — Authorities have identified the body of a man found Sunday in a Garrard County field.
The body of Floyd Smith, 55, of Crab Orchard, was found lying in a farm field on Ky. 39 south of Lancaster, said Garrard Coroner Daryl Hodge. Steven Crouch, a farmer who had been clearing his field, hit the body with his Bush Hog and alerted authorities.
Smith had been dead for at least a few days, Hodge said. An autopsy was performed Monday, but the results were inconclusive, according to¿Hodge.
“We absolutely do not suspect foul play, and he was definitely deceased before the Bush Hog hit him,” the coroner said.
It will take at least 14 business days for a full autopsy report including toxicology results to come back from Frankfort.
A Lincoln County dispatcher confirmed Monday that Smith’s family had filed a missing person’s report on him before the body was discovered Sunday. However, the Lincoln sheriff was out of town and unavailable to comment further.
The date for a private memorial service for Smith had not been set as of this morning. McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard is handling the arrangements.
