STANFORD — An early-morning car theft led police on a chase from Stanford to Moreland on Wednesday.

Kevin Higgins, 27, of Boneyville Road Stanford, allegedly stole a vehicle on Danville Avenue in Stanford.

He was located by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers on Spoonamore Lane in the vehicle. Officers attempted to pull him over; however Higgins refused, opting instead to lead police on a chase, according to Sheriff Curt Folger.

Folger said Deputy Chase Marcum pursued the vehicle on Ky. 1194, heading into the Moreland area. Higgins drove through yards, according to Folger, before attempting to flee on foot. Marcum followed and captured Higgins on Raintree Circle at about 5 a.m.

Folger credited other departments for stepping in to help in the capture, including Boyle Sheriff’s Department, Stanford Police and Hustonville Police.

Higgins was charged with fleeing and evading police, theft of a motor vehicle, assualt in the second degree on police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, operating under the influence, operating on a revoked or suspended license, and other traffic-related violations such as speeding.
