Meeting set about Kennedy bridge changes
A public information meeting on the proposed replacement of Kennedy Bridge over Herrington Lake on Ky. 152 will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Burgin Elementary School.
The selected alignment for Ky. 152 over the lake and the different bridge types will be presented for review and comments. Representatives from the Transportation Cabinet and their consultant, WMB, Inc., will be present to address questions and comments and provide further information.

Salvation Army fundraising begins
The Salvation Army expects to serve more than 1,200 people this year, with the Angel Tree program will serve roughly 800 children. There are 729 angels that have not been returned and the Army requests them by Dec. 5.
The goal for the 2012 Red Kettle bell-ringing season is $100,000. At the end of the first week, $7,300 has been raised. There are many opportunities to volunteer to ring a bell. Please contact The Salvation Army at (859) 236-4473 to schedule a time.
Danville Office Equipment has sponsored a match for all kettle donations for the weekend of the November 30- Dec. 1. Other upcoming weekend matches are: Community Trust Bank, Dec. 7-8; First Southern Bank, Dec. 14-15; and Symbiotix, Dec. 21-22.
Annual Santa Breakfast set
LANCASTER — Lancaster Women’s Club will host a breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Southern Community Room in Lancaster. A photo with Santa and a meal are included for $5.

This year, there is a mailbox to send Santa’s letters at the library. Beginning today, visitors can fill out a free letter to Santa and he will send a response to the library.
Sock-Tacular Christmas Crafts — 5 p.m. Tuesday. Learn to make a cute wreath and snowman out of Christmas socks. This program is free and open to all ages. Bring Christmas-patterned socks for the craft. Participants will need two pairs of tube socks.
Paint Lick Book Club — 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Paint Lick Community Arts Center. Will discuss “The Ballard of Tom Dooley” by Sharyn McCrumb. New members are welcome.
New movie matinee — 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Christopher Nolan returns to complete the Gotham trilogy that launched with “Batman Begins” and reached the stratosphere with the billion-dollar blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” Christian Bale prowls the night as the Caped Crusader, fighting crime and corruption.
Basic Internet class — 1 p.m. Friday. Lean basic internet skills at this class sponsored by the Garrard County Public Library Workforce Center.
Free fine month — Throughout December, the Garrard County Public Library is celebrating the holidays by waiving fines. Those who have long overdue items can turn them in during December for fine forgiveness. It’s a great chance to clear up an account and start the new year with no fines. Only fines accrued during December or for items returned in December are eligible for fine forgiveness.
