Police have no leads on a suspect in a pharmacy robbery Saturday night in Danville.
About 8:40 p.m., Danville police responded to the CVS pharmacy on Second Street after reports of a robbery.
Witnesses say the suspect, who had fled before police arrived, entered the store and walked to the pharmacy area.
Police Chief Tony Gray said the man demanded prescription pills from the pharmacy staff.
“They just said he came in and asked them for pills, to hand them over,” Gray said.
Pharmacy staff surrendered pills to the suspect, who said he would shoot employees if they followed him outside, according to a press release.
“He implied that he had a weapon,” Gray said. “But they (witnesses) didn’t see one, which doesn’t really make a difference.”
The suspect left the store, and Gray said it is unsure at this time the quantity of pills he took with him.
Gray said police are aware of the type of pills the suspect was given.
“We don’t want to release that at this time,” Gray said. “He came in and got some pain pills, I will tell you that.”
Witnesses said the suspect fled in a late 1990s or early 2000s model Ford Ranger single-cab pickup truck with a black tool box in the bed.
He was described as a white male, 5-feet 8-inches to 6 feet tall, with reddish-gray hair, a gray goatee, and wearing light-colored blue jeans, brown work boots and a blue jacket with a white stripe across the chest.
Police plan to check surveillance video from the store.
