A Danville man accused of robbing a truck stop in March pleaded guilty to the crime Thursday in Boyle Circuit Court.
Jonathan Tyler, 26, agreed to plea guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree robbery in exchange for a recommended sentence of 10 years in prison. Judge Darren Peckler will sentence him on Sept. 4.
Tyler initially was charged with first-degree robbery for using what appeared to be a pistol to rob Bluegrass Truck Stop on Stewart’s Lane to demand money from the register. The weapon, however, turned out to be a cigarette lighter shaped like a gun, but that did not lessen the crime, said Commonwealth’s Attorney Richie Bottoms.
An undisclosed amount of cash taken during the robbery was recovered when police arrested Tyler.
The truck stop has been the target of armed robberies three times in the past year. A man, who was never caught, robbed the establishment in December, and three teenagers were charged with armed robbery after the store was hit again in June.
