A former Boyle County firefighter and emergency medical technician has been indicted for allegedly having sexual relations with a minor female.
Clarence A. Roller Jr., 39, of Danville was indicted on two counts of sodomy and four counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a girl that was less than 12 years old when the incidents began.
According to the indictment, the first-degree sodomy charge stems from Roller having deviant intercourse, as an ongoing course of conduct, with the girl between Jan. 1, 2003, and Sept. 30., 2007, when the girl was less than 12 years of age. The second-degree sodomy charge allegedly occurred between Oct. 1, 2007, and Nov. 21, 2008, when the girl was less than 14 years old.
Two of the sexual abuse charges allegedly occurred when he subjected the girl to sexual conduct when she was less than 12, according to the indictment.
The other two sexual abuse charges alleged that Roller masturbated in the presence of the girl between July 15, 2010 and Aug. 15 of this year, when the girl was less than 18 years old. Those two indictments describe Roller as “a person of authority.”
Roller has been held in the Boyle County Detention Center since his arrest on Aug. 17. His bond is set at $75,000.
Boyle Judge-Executive Harold McKinney said Roller resigned his paid position as an EMT with Boyle County Emergency Medical Services shortly after he was charged.
Boyle County Fire Chief Donnie Sexton said Roller is currently listed as “inactive” for the county fire department.
“He’s not been officially discharged; he’s in limbo at this point,” Sexton said.
Roller’s wife turned in his firefighter’s gear shortly after his arrest, Sexton said, and he has not attended the required meetings and training drills while he’s been incarcerated, leading to his “inactive” status.
Sexton said the county department will wait until after Roller’s case is completed before officially resolving his status with the department.
“We’re not making any judgments, because we don’t know anything at this point,” he said. “We’ll wait to see what happens in court.”
