LANCASTER — Nathan Mick, economic development director for Garrard County, officially resigned during Monday’s Fiscal Court meeting. He could not be reached for comment today.
The resignation follows a storied term as economic development director for Mick, who started in the position in 2007.
While in Lancaster, he was involved with the revitalization of Campbell Street and the renovation of the Grand Theater, among many other things. He also formed the Garrard County Community Committee, connecting organizations within the county to offer support to one another.
A deep connection to politics was reflected in his work as a political advisor on the state and national levels.
He worked for former U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel, the recent Secretary of Defense selection from President Barack Obama. On the state level, Mick operated as a campaign manager for former Rep. Lonnie Napier.
Mick is a 1999 Centre College graduate. His background includes experience traveling for personal and professional purposes, most recently returning from a trip escorting a delegation from the American Council of Young Political Leaders through Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
In 2012, he attempted a run for state representative for the 36th District after Napier decided not to seek re-election; however, Mick was defeated in the primary by Jonathan Shell of Lancaster.
Mick’s wife, Maggie, recently completed her tenure as a member of Lancaster City Council.
