Man allegedly resists arrest after drunken driving

Wesley Simpson

HARRODSBURG  —  A Harrodsburg man allegedly resisted arrest after drunken driving and had to be tasered by police officers.

Wesley Simpson, 30, of 120 Chilton Lane, is being held in Boyle County Detention Center in connection with the alleged incident Thursday evening. He was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without insurance. As of today, Simpson was being held on a $6,000 cash bond.

Harrodsburg police officers responded to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Lexington and Cane Run streets about 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Simpson, who allegedly smelled like alcohol, was near the scene and denied being the driver of the vehicle, police said. A witness said Simpson was the driver and that he had removed a box of beer from his vehicle and placed it behind a Cane Run Street residence. Police officers later found the beer.

Paramedics transported Simpson to Haggin Memorial Hospital for medical clearance. Simpson allegedly became belligerent during questioning and physically resisted officers who tried to arrest him. A Mercer County deputy who had joined the investigation used a taser on Simpson. Once the suspect calmed down, officers took him back into the emergency room for medical clearance before transporting him to Boyle County Detention Center.
