Mercer County students will begin classes for the 2013-2014 year on Aug. 7, one day earlier than last year, according to a plan approved by the board during the regular February meeting.
The first student holiday will be Labor Day, Sept. 2, followed by Fall break from Oct. 4 to Oct. 11.
Nov. 27 will be offered as professional development days for teachers, while students will be out from Nov. 27 through Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving break.
Students will have an early release day on Dec. 20, the last day of classes before Christmas break. With two full weeks for the winter holiday, they will resume classes on Jan. 6.
On Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Feb. 17, Presidents Day, there will be no school in Mercer County. March 14, a planning day and March 28, a professional development day, will be teacher-only days, resulting in no school for students.
Spring break for the district will be March 28 to April 4, with classes resuming on April 7.
The official last day of school for students in Mercer County is May 15, with May 16 serving as a closing day for staff.
There are 173 instructional days with students. Additionally, there are two professional development days, on Aug. 1 and 2, with a planning day for teachers scheduled for Aug. 5 and opening day on Aug. 6, before students begin.
