Upcoming Garrard humane society events
LANCASTER — Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society has several upcoming events in February.
The humane society will participate in the PetSmart National Adoption Weekend event Saturday at Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville, where attendees can stop by to adopt a new pet.
The humane society will also participate in the PetCo National Adoption Weekend event Feb. 18 in Frankfort.
A low-cost pet wellness clinic will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 25 at the humane society building, 2114 Richmond St. in Lancaster. The clinic is being sponsored in collaboration with the ASPCA, veterinarians Devin Carlton and Jessie Lay and the staff of the Stanford Veterinary Hospital.
McDowell Health offers free health screenings
Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings 8-11 a.m. and 4-6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at First Christian Church in Danville.
Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, colon cancer screening kit (take-home kit for anyone over age 50) and stroke risk score card. After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.
Participants should not eat for 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel, which gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.
The screenings are available for anyone 18 and older. Call (859) 236-4006 Monday-Friday for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome. In the case of inclement weather, any changes will be announced on Hometown Radio.
Garrard Youth Football offers vacation prize
Garrard Youth Football is selling tickets for a drawing for a seven-day, six-night vacation in Gulf Shores, Ala.
A maximum of 100 tickets will be sold. Each ticket costs $25. Winner must be 25 or older to be eligible. The drawing will be March 1.
The vacation dates are April 1-8. Taxes and fees are included in the prize; the winner will be responsible for food and entertainment expenses.
