Burn ban set in Junction City

There is a burn ban in Junction City until further notice. Residents are also asked not to light fireworks as part of the ban.

 

McDowell Wellness Center will offer Rookie Boot Camp

McDowell Wellness Center is offering two sessions of its Rookie Boot Camp to get individuals in shape while losing weight.

Both sessions of the six-week Boot Camp will begin June 9. A morning session begins at 7 a.m. and meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday while an evening session begins at 6:30 p.m. and meets each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

A typical class will begin indoors with a 10- to 15-minute series of jumping jacks, push-ups and sit-ups or crunches. These will be followed by an outdoors workout, consisting of a walk/run with stops along the way for a series of workout drills.

To participate, individuals must be able to complete a mile in less than 13 minutes. The cost is $40 for Wellness Center members and $70 for non-members. To sign up or for more information, please call (859) 936-9355 or stop by the member services desk.

 

Pool party set

HARRODSBURG — The Anderson Dean Park Aquatic Center and the area branch of Special People Supporting Special Kids will host a free pool party for individuals with special needs and their families at 6-8 p.m. July 10 at Anderson Dean Park Aquatic Center.

Lifeguards will be on duty as well as volunteers with experience in working with individuals with special needs. There will be free snacks and drinks.
