Event to benefit Humane Society

LANCASTER — Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society will benefit from a “Dining to Donate” fundraiser at Applebee's in Danville. A flier is available, which must be given to the server, that will guarantee 10 percent of the bill to the shelter. The event lasts from Friday to Sunday and the flier can be found in today’s newspaper or at the Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society in Lancaster.


Holiday events

Junction City Christmas Parade — 7 p.m. Friday on Main Street in Junction City. Following the parade, there will be a tree-lighting ceremony and Santa will be available in the Community Center for photos, and free cookies and hot chocolate will be served. Perryville Christmas Bazaar — Day-long event beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday with a breakfast with Santa at the Battlefied Marathon station and ending at 8:30 p.m. with the mayor’s tree-lighting ceremony. For more information, call Vicki Goode at (859) 332-1862 or Kayla Alcorn at (859) 319-9966.

Salvisa Ruritan Christmas Parade — 10 a.m. Saturday with Tim Farmer serving as the parade’s grand marshal. Organizers request for non-perishable food items to be brought, which will be donated to families in need in Mercer County. Santa also will be available after the parade and hot chocolate and snacks will be served. Visit www.salvisaruritan.org for more information.

Kentucky College Application Week

This week is Kentucky College Application Week. Danville High School will be promoting this week by assisting seniors with completing their college applications. For any Danville High School student applying to Eastern Kentucky University during this week, EKU has agreed to waive all application fees.

College Application Week  is an event sponsored by Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. The goal of CAW is to provide every graduating DHS senior an opportunity to apply to college, with particular focus on helping first-generation college students and students who may not otherwise apply. High school students and Danville staff are encouraged to wear college apparel during this week.

This event is being sponsored by the Beacon Youth Services Center and the Danville High School Guidance Office.  The mission of Family Resource and Youth Service Centers is to remove barriers from student academic success.
