Strong women of history featured at Fort Harrod talks
HARRODSBURG — Fort Harrod will have events on Nov. 3. A “Coffee” will be held at 10 a.m. and a “Tea” at 3 p.m. at the Mansion Museum at Old Fort Harrod State Park. While guests are served food and drink, a presentation will feature some historic women of the area and and one historic man.
The setting will take place in the year 1875 at the home of James Taylor. Taylor’s married daughter, Sarah Emily Moore, and his granddaughter, Irene, have a conversation about some of the strong women who helped settle Kentucky.
James and their former slave, Sallie Ann, add their knowledge of past women. Gov. Beriah Magoffin’s wife, Lizzie Hardin, and Sister Mary Settles will drop by for a visit; and Ann Magoffin has some juicy 1875 gossip to share about Rachael Jackson.
The menu for both the Coffee and the Tea will be an “1875 epicurean delight” served by young ladies in period dress. A $10 “calling card” to attend the event can be obtained at Fort Harrod State Park or in downtown Harrodsburg at J. Sampson’s Antiques and Blue Moon Café. Tickets must be purchased in advance — they will not be sold on Nov. 3. Meeting
