Band competition set for Saturday
Danville Marching Admiral Invitational will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at Admiral Stadium. The competition features bands from across the state and will include Boyle County and Garrard County high school bands. Danville will not compete, as the host, but will perform an exhibition. Admission will be charged.
Programs will be available at the gate.
Meetings
Danville City Commission — 2 p.m. today at city hall for a special meeting to accept airport grant in amount of $100,000.
Mercer County Board of Education — 6:30 p.m. today at central office for a special meeting. Agenda items include application for “Race to the Top” and anti-bullying grants and the school district’s working budget.
Cancellation
The Bob Allen Motor Mall Cruise-In planned for Saturday on Main Street in Danville has been canceled. The final cruise-in for the season is planned for Oct. 20.

Registration set
Registration will be accepted for the Dash for Life Domestic Violence Walk 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14 at the Dollar General Store on Main Street.
The walk is planned for Oct. 27 at Millenium Park. It will be a two-mile walk around the park, followed by an auction featuring signed sports memorabilia. Bake sale items also will be sold.
The cost is $10 per person and $5 for dogs. Proceeds from the event will go to the Danielle Thomas Scholarship Fund.
