Democrats open headquarters 

The Boyle County Democratic headquarters at 305 W. Main St. in Danville will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays beginning Monday. Additional hours will be added starting in October. The telephone number is (859) 712-0111.

 

Beauty program set at cancer center

“Look Good... Feel Better”, a program designed to help women overcome the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment, will hold its next session 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Commonwealth Cancer Center in Danville. Classes are taught by licensed beauty professionals (cosmetologists, estheticians, nail technicians) and are open to all women undergoing cancer treatment.

“Look Good...Feel Better” is a collaboration between Commonwealth Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, and the Professional Beauty Association/National Cosmetology Association.

The program is free, but registration is required. To reserve a spot, please call Commonwealth Cancer Center at 859-236-2203.

 

EMRMC offers flu shots 

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is offering drive-thru flu shots while supplies are available. 

Individuals nine years of age and older may get a flu shot from 5-7 p.m. on Monday or Monday, Sept. 24 at the South Wing entrance of the hospital. Participants may enter from either Third or Fourth Street onto Figg Alley and drive through under the awning.

The cost is $25 for the general public, $20 for dependents of Ephraim McDowell Associates and free for Ephraim McDowell Associates. Appointments are not necessary and cash or checks will be accepted. 

Flu shots can help individuals reduce their chance of getting the flu this winter. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots for individuals six months of age and older.

 

Drive-thru flu shots to be given

JUNCTION CITY — The Boyle County Health Department will be having a drive thru flu shot clinic from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Junction City First Baptist Church, 3860 U.S. 127 South. Anyone age 19 and over is eligible. The shots are $20 or we can bill most insurances. Most people will be able to stay in their car and receive the flu shot. 

Children can come into the health department during regular business hours to receive their shots.

Danville Board of Education — 6 p.m. Monday at Hogsett Elementary School. Agenda items include working budget and results of 2011 audit.

Boyle County Fire Protection District Board of Trustees — 6 p.m. Tuesday at Station 1/Headquarters building, 1500 Lebanon Road.

Mercer County Board of Education — 5:30 p.m. Thursday at high school. Agenda items include policy changes regarding district volunteers and the King Middle School booster club.

Boyle County Democratic Women’s Club — 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Danville Bowlarama Restaurant. The speaker will be Barry Harmon, candidate for state representative in Boyle and Washington counties.
