Auditions set for commemmoration play
The Friends of the Library announce auditions for middle and high school students for “Perryville Stories,” to be performed as a Reader’s Theatre production during the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Perryville. Auditions will be 4:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Boyle County Public Library.
“Perryville Stories” was developed from a writing and research project done by Danville High School students in 1999 during a semester-long English project with teacher Joan Haigh.
The monologues paint a moving and realistic picture of life in the community — before, during and after the battle.
Characters range in age from 6 to 60 and include slaves, children, townspeople, soldiers and others affected by the battle and the war. Their stories show a very personal connection to the historical battle.
LANCASTER — The 31st annual Garrard County Tobacco Cutting Contest has been rescheduled for Sept. 12 due to wet weather. The contest will be held at Justin Wilmot’s farm on Oscar Ray Road.
The event is conducted by the Tobacco Advisory Committee of the University of Kentucky/Garrard County Cooperative Extension Service and is sponsored by contributions from local businesses, financial institutions, and area tobacco warehouses.
