STANFORD — Harold Gipson Long, 79, died Jan. 4, 2013, in Lexington, Ky.

Born Dec. 6, 1933, in Stanford, Ky., he was a son of the late Walter and Bernetta Clark Long. He was a machinist having worked for IBM for 32 years before he retired, was an avid UK basketball and football fan, and a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley Cloyd Long; two sons, Michael Long (Pam) of Lexington, Ky., and James Long of Danville, Ky.; two daughters, Pamela Long Vanhook (Eugene) of Danville and Angela Long Berry (Wayne) of Stanford; a sister, Doris Noland of Stanford; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Summer Michelle Long and Shawn Bastin; and three brothers, Walter, Fred and William Long.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home with the Rev.¿Stewart Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Billy Long, Roger Long, Jeremy Rice, Jerry Noland, Steve Noland and Craig Noland.
Honorary bearers are Jimmy Hicks, Toney Newsome, Larry and Janice Walls, George Bertram, Gary Noland, Gip Noland, Grey Noland, and Fred Long.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.
