PERRYVILLE — Police are seeking a man who allegedly tried to rob a teller at the Farmers National Bank branch in Perryville Friday afternoon.
About 1:45 p.m. Friday, an unidentified white man between the ages of 25 and 35 approached a male teller working on the ATM outside of the bank, said Boyle County Sheriff Marty Elliott.
“The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and the teller looked at him like he was crazy,” Elliott said.
The teller informed the would-be robber several times that he could not get into the ATM, said Perryville Police Chief Charles Parks.
“The guy suggested he had someone else with him, but then ran away,” Elliott said.
Thus, the crime is classified as an attempted bank robbery, Elliott said. He has been in touch with FBI officials, but since no money was taken they will not get involved in the case until an arrest is made.
Boyle County deputies, Perryville police officers and Kentucky State Police troopers spent most of Friday afternoon searching for the suspect, who was reportedly wearing mirrored sunglasses, a red bandanna, a blue baseball cap with Inter-County Energy on it, a light blue or white shirt and blue jeans. A Boyle County police dog detected the suspect’s scent throughout the area surrounding the East 2nd Street bank, but the odor dissipated near Mitchellsburg Road.
On Saturday, police were hoping to view bank surveillance tapes to find out more information about the alleged robber. Several witnesses reported seeing a man matching the suspect’s description in the area Friday afternoon, according to Elliott.
