Police news for Sept. 12

Man charged with multiple crimes

HARRODSBURG — A man was arrested Sept. 5 for stealing pieces of precision cut steel valued about $500. Witnesses reported seeing suspicious persons on Joe Street, and directed police to a vacant property there. Michael Cavanah, 26, was found hiding under a deck in the weeds on that property. He was arrested for criminal trespassing.

According to Sgt. Jay Eldrige of the Harrodsburg Police Department, police located “large chunks of three-inch set,” weighing more than 150 pounds each, which had been dumped on the property. The officers contacted the Lebanon Police Department, which was investigating a theft at a steel mill. Police, again, talked to Cavanah, who admitted to having taken part of the Lebanon thefts and dumping the steel on the vacant property.

Cavanah then was charged with receiving stolen property more than $500.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man charged with burglary

HARRODSBURG — Police were called Sept. 3, after a man entered a residence and refused to leave.

Charles L. Richardson, 46, entered a home at 640 Greenbriar Drive, without knocking, according to police. The residents said he was not welcome. When officers arrived, they discovered Richardson in the bedroom of the residence, intoxicated. This was the second time Richardson had visited the property that day. He was previously warned of criminal trespass and told to not return to the property.

Richardson was arrested for second-degree burglary and lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center.
